A must-read piece... we close out 205, otherwise known as The Year of "I identify as..." 
Writing in Spiked Review, editor Brendan O'Neill explains how the self-esteem movement has taken us to a most ironic place indeed. He never actually says that in so many words, but that's the root of the phenomenon he so deftly describes.

I am reminded of what my Dad used to say about self-respect: "You don't define yourself to other people. Other people define you by your actions."
